Message "The current font can't be embedded" appears when trying to save to PDF

When trying to save a PDF of anything in TurboLaw Time and Billing, a message which says "The current font can't be embedded" appears and the PDF is not created.

This problem is caused because some fonts on your computer are specifically marked as "not allowed to be embedded" in any file. When you create a PDF, the normal method is to embed the fonts that you use into the PDF so that everyone who opens the PDF can see those fonts, whether they have the fonts on their computer or not.

To work around this problem, you will need to tell TurboLaw Time and Billing not to embed the font into the PDF.

When you create the PDF, a window appears asking you for some information - most people simply click OK to continue. However, there is a box in this window which allows you to specify which font (or fonts) to not embed in the PDF.

Try typing in the name of one of the fonts you are using in whatever you were trying to save to PDF. You may need to try multiple times if you use multiple fonts.

These are the fonts that we currently know of that cannot be embedded in a PDF:

  • Garamond

We will continue to update this article with more fonts as we learn which ones cannot be embedded.

If you do not want to have to exclude the font each time you save something to PDF, you will need to adjust your template in TurboLaw Time and Billing to not use the offending font instead. (Try using a different font that looks similar, if possible.)
