Moving TurboLaw Time and Billing to a new computer is a simple 3-step process:
- Install TurboLaw Time and Billing on your new computer
- Copy your data file from your old computer to your new computer
- Activate the software with your license number
Step 1: Install TurboLaw Time and Billing on your new computer
To install the program on your new computer, simply log in to your account and click on the Software Downloads tab.
Step 2: Copy your data file from your old computer to your new computer
All of your data in TurboLaw Time and Billing is saved in one single database file. By default, this file is called "TurboLawBilling Database" and can be found under "TurboLaw Time and Billing" in your computer's "Documents" folder.
You just need to copy this file from your old computer to your new computer (how you copy it is up to you - you can use a flash drive, or your network, or whatever method of copying files you prefer).
Although you can put the file on your new computer wherever you like, the recommended location is in the "TurboLaw Time and Billing" folder in your new computer's "Documents" folder. (If you see a file here with the same name, it is OK to replace it - this is just an empty, blank file created when you opened the program in step 1.)
If your file uses the default name, you don't need to do anything else - the program will open it automatically. If your data file has a different name (or if for some reason the program does not open it automatically), you can click the File menu and choose Open to open the file you just copied to your new computer.
Note: if you have your data on a network (that is, if you save it on a server or similar device, or if you're sharing your data with other users) you don't need to copy the data file. Instead, you can simply open the data file from your new computer - just click the File menu in the program and choose Open, then browse to your network and select your data file. Once you've opened the file, TurboLaw Time and Billing will continue to use that file from now on - you don't need to keep re-opening it manually every time.
Step 3: Activate the software with your license number
Once you have the software on your new computer, you can activate it using your license number. If you don't know what your license number is, you can see it by opening the software on your old computer and clicking the Help menu and choosing About - your license number will be displayed here.
If your old computer is no longer working (or if you've removed the software already), you can see your license numbers by logging into your account and clicking on the Software Downloads tab - there will be a link here you can click to see all of your license numbers. If you have multiple licenses, you may need to view the license numbers on your other computers in order to determine which one was in use on your old computer.
