Printer not listed or not available from TurboLaw remote desktop environment

If you do not see your printer listed or available as a choice when trying to print from the TurboLaw remote desktop environment, then you may not have enabled the option for printing (or "printer redirection," as it is known) when setting up your connection.

To resolve this, you will need to log out of TurboLaw and then edit your connection to enable this option. The steps to do this will depend on whether you are connecting from a Mac or a Windows PC. (Note: printing is not currently supported from tablets/phones running iOS or Android.)

Connecting from Mac

If you are connecting from a Mac, follow these steps to enable the option for printing.

  1. Save your work and log out of the TurboLaw remote environment (if you haven't already done so) by clicking the Start menu at the bottom-left corner of the screen and then clicking on your name at the top-right and choosing Sign out.
  2. Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app (but do not double-click your connection yet).
  3. Point your mouse at the icon for your connection (listed under Saved Desktops) and click the Edit button that appears in the bottom-right of the icon (it looks like a pencil). This will open the Edit Desktop window.
  4. In the Edit Desktop window, click on Devices & Audio, and then next to the label for Redirect, make sure that the option for Printers is checked, and then click Save.

Once you have done this, you can connect to TurboLaw again and you should now have the option to print to your local printer(s).

Connecting from a Windows PC

If you are connecting from a Windows PC, follow these steps to enable the option for printing.

  1. Save your work and log out of the TurboLaw remote environment (if you haven't already done so) by clicking the Start menu at the bottom-left corner of the screen and then clicking on your name at the top-right and choosing Sign out.
  2. Open the Remote Desktop Connection app (but do not click Connect yet).
  3. Click on Show Options, then click on Local Resources.
  4. Under Local devices and resources, make sure the option for Printers is checked, and then click Connect.

Once you have done this, you will be connected and you should now have the option to print to your local printer(s).
